Country Lead – RESIslands Initiative (Comoros)

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is seeking a Country Lead to drive the RESIslands Initiative in the Comoros. This six‑month consultancy will serve as the primary in‑country focal point, ensuring that project activities are aligned with national priorities and that stakeholder engagement is effective and coordinated.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the local facilitator for all RESIslands activities, including consultations, workshops, trainings and meetings.
• Coordinate with national ministries (Climate, Finance, Planning, Environment, Blue Economy, Health, DRR, Security, Energy, Infrastructure, Land Development) to align project outputs with government strategies.
• Support institutional strengthening and capacity‑building efforts to enhance the delivery of multi‑hazard risk assessments.
• Provide local data, insights and inputs to the project’s knowledge base and reporting mechanisms.
• Maintain regular communication with UNECA’s Program Coordinator, the national Designated Authority and the AISCC National Focal Point.

Required profile

• Proven experience in climate resilience, disaster risk reduction or related development projects.
• Strong understanding of national policy frameworks and ability to work with multiple government ministries.
• Excellent stakeholder‑engagement and facilitation skills.
• Ability to work independently in a remote island context and deliver results within a six‑month timeframe.
