Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a senior expert to lead climate risk screening and environmental & social safeguards for transport infrastructure projects across the ECOWAS region. The role will support ECOWAS institutions in embedding climate resilience, sustainability and social inclusion into project preparation and implementation.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for regional transport corridors.
• Provide technical expertise on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Prepare and review ESIA, ESMP, resettlement frameworks, stakeholder engagement plans and other safeguard documentation.
• Integrate climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and social safeguards into project design.
• Advise ECOWAS bodies and national stakeholders on safeguard compliance and climate mainstreaming.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies and technical guidance.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops, trainings and technical support.
• Support monitoring, reporting and quality assurance of safeguard‑related activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, climate change, sustainability, social development or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure development.
• Proven experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
